just popping by quickly to let everyone know about my upcoming in-person workshops at Parkdale Pottery (my favourite place).
Underglazing!
With just two spots left we have another date in my Illustrated Surfaces (underglazing) class. Students will be given pre-bisqued wall tiles, like these ones, to practice the techniques I use to achieve crisp and crunchy underglaze details.
Pet Portraits!
We’ve got a Pet Portrait workshop coming up on September 21st! Bring reference of your furry friends and we’ll work together on simplifying and caricaturizing them, and then immortalize them in ceramic!
Pre-bisqued tiles will be provided so your fur baby portraits can be hung on the wall and you can spend as much time as possible during the workshop perfecting their little punims. This class is great for beginners and novices looking to level up their underglazing skills. Pet portraits are a great way to keep your fur babies with you forever, and make a wonderful gift for the pet parents in your life.
Poison Jars/Bottles!
Next we have a two-part hand building workshop! I’m really excited for this one! In this first class we’ll be hand building flask-style decorative jars with black clay and using (predominantly) white underglaze to decorate them in the second session. Due to the nature of black clay, these pieces are unlikely to be food safe, but they’ll be perfect for flowers, dry goods, and secrets.
The first session is Sept 29, 6:30-9:30pm, there will be a week off in between for the studio to bisque all the work, and then the second session is Oct 13, 6:30-9:30pm.
In other news, I have joined a pottery discord! It’s called Pot Dealers and if you’re into discord you can join too and hang out and chat pottery with other enthusiasts! You can keep up with some of your favourite artists, talk shop, get advice, or just admire if thats more your thing!
